A Special Reading

Although we here at the Culvert like to have fun now and again, we're not philistines. Please join us for a special installment of "English Jonny Reads the Masters", our multi-part series on the great literature of fly fishing.

  1. Brayshaw, What is the meaning of this? I don't like books, people, websites, or fires, camp or otherwise. I especially don't like fishing. No, I'd rather stay home and have sex than read a book or go fishing.

Loving the site. Read it all the time. Keep up the good work!

  2. Stabone: surely, you can be more clever than that.

  3. Stabone (comment post now removed) thought that since we do a little cussin' and swearin' here at the Culvert, it might be enough to be simply vulgar and insulting. Given that we have standards and are not, as I already said above, a bunch of philistines, Stabone failed to realize that one's vulgarity and insultiness must also be clever. We value all three, and perhaps in that order, but we do have minimum thresholds.

  4. Well done perfessor Brayshaw...uphold those thresholds...

    irreverence with standards. excellent

  5. nah, that was about as good as it gets. i see we are full circle with moderator disapproval at this point.

  6. Ahh, so you CAN be clever. I wouldn't go so far as to say that I disapproved of your comment. I just wasn't impressed. But touche - you know me from elsewhere, and you know that I myself do not always satisfy the moderators. Perhaps I was brash. Maybe I just don't get your humor. So, I will put your comment back up, and let the rest decide if it was clever. If it was, perhaps we'll get a nice dialogue going. Maybe I'll see if English Jonny would consider a guest post.

Gentle Readers, stabone's original comment, which I deleted, was something to the effect of:

"I'm looking for some hot man-on-man action. Have I come to the right place?"

    Carry on.

  7. stabone: Yes, you can get that here, but it's really sub-par. There are much, much better places for that.

  8. even with my fetish for tundra walking gear?

  9. No. That changes everything. You have come to the right place.

  10. But do you wear boots Stabone?

  11. I can't speak for him, of course, but I'm going to anyway...

"Have the gaiters...love them. I am kind of sour on bean footwear right now. I have had 3 pairs of bean items go south quickly. Pair of shoes, a pair of bean boots and a pair of hikers.

Everything else I have from bean has been awesome...footwear, not so much."

  12. That isn't stabone. Of that I am certain...for I too have been guilty of upsetting a moderator or 3...and am quite certain we have traded bards in an alternate forum...

  13. of course i wear shoes. i wouldn't want my tootsies to get cold. i can also say there is no greater feeling in the world than a cold breeze blowing against my bare bum as i parade around in my assless chaps on mid-january days.

  14. OK - I give up. Stabone, you and Sam Hall will have to set up your "man-on-man" meeting without my help. If Jonny can help, perhaps he'll chime in.

Oh, and Sam, I've never traded a Bard with anybody. Jonny's the Shakespeare guy.

  15. I've nothing to add, but please do carry on: this is our most popular post yet! It's doing wonders for the Christmas book sales.

I've never met a chap with no ass. Must be a few at Eton I suppose.

  16. T.J: I agree that whilst the original stabone post did lack vulgar cleverness it was hardly offensive in the traditional sense though likely offensive in the Culvert sense (perhaps it was Vulcert, no, that's not right). Further stabone comments seem to also lack the certain cleverness to which we aspire when compared to, for example, Jonny's very clever response "I've never met a chap...."

Thank you for continuing to maintain the... certain standards for which this forum has long been known.

  17. Dear Steve. I'm tempted to tell you to fuck off....but you're a dear chap, so I wouldn't dream of it.

    Not long now.

  18. Steve - I think you've made the same mistake that some of the others have made. I'm not going to spell it out, but rather, I'm going to dig deep into my skillset as an educator, and ask you a question. From this question, it is my hope that you will come to realize your mistake.

Here we go...One of these things (see below) is not like the others, one of these things just doesn't belong, can you tell which thing is not like the others by the time I finish my song?

    Blog. Blog. Forum. Blog.

  19. I'm tempted to demand deletion of all these posts because people who don't read this forum, dang I meant blog, would be offended.

  20. Z-

Stand down....I just made it over to the slurp for the witty discourse. For those that are taken aback by the banter....as my psuedonym's inspiration would say...DAMN YOUR EYES

  21. Watch him Z - he killed a man, and left him lyin' dead.

Sam - any fan of The Man in Black is welcome in the Culvert. And don't mind Z. He's never even fished for carp. He's not to be trusted.
