Purest Genius

  1. Do not go fishing when the river is blown out at over 2000 CFS.
  2. Do not go fishing on a busy river on the busiest weekend of the year.
  3. Prepare yourself for dense crowds of anglers, miserable and restless at scant prospects.
  4. This will be the year of your first Pulaski fist fight, probably with a woman, all caught on video.
  5. Tell yourself, tell your friends, and tell yourself again, that a cigar will be the best thing that happens over four whole days.

Make your second cast.

  1. Discard your logic, everything you know.
  2. Henceforth, everything you touch, everywhere you look, there will be large, fresh steelhead.
  3. Peace and solitude will be yours for the duration.
  4. On returning home your inner magic will deliver yet more. Your wife will encourage you to return to Pulaski forthwith to retrieve her most expensive towel that you left in Cabin No.5, Fox Hollow Lodge (the very biggest of all the cabins, in which you earlier snagged the only bedroom).
  5. Roger confirms that he will gladly hold the item and will look forward to seeing you at Christmas time.

You smile at the purity of your genius.

A video with nice music will be available shortly.

Thank you for your patience while we have been mastering steelhead fishing.

Minutes

This blog sucks.  They rarely update it, and half the posts have nothing to do with fishing.

In an attempt to rectify this, the members of the TAC (The Angler's Culvert) board convened a meeting.  We report the minutes below.

Meeting was called to order when EJ poured his Highland Park.  TJ answered the phone, and poured Dickel.

EJ moved to begin with a discussion of Scotland.  TJ seconded the motion.

Scotland was declared desirable and all things good.  Matter was closed.

TJ moved to propose a kayak purchase.  EJ offered advice.  Twelve feet was declared the optimal length.  All in attendance agreed that buying second-hand is the way to go.  Motion passed.

A discussion of depression and its various manifestations ensued.  Depression was declared undesirable and complicated.  Motion passed.

A move was made to determine, once and for all, the best Scotch whisky.

Discussion was tabled when consensus could not be reached.

If you're trying to get her drunk so she'll sleep with you, but she's also your wife, is there really an ethical dilemma?  TAC Executive Council says "No".

You can never really understand another person's perspective.  Not really.  So the best you can do is to recognize this fact.  That will get you as close to understanding as is possible, which is to say, not terribly close.  Issue is tabled for Eternity.

Plans were made to conduct future board meetings in person.  Motion passed.

Thanks, Soulpatch, for some of the great photos.

Culvert giveth. Culvert taketh away.

The rain caused major currents to come through the "in" culvert (as well as through the "out" culvert) of Seven Culverts Pond, and the largemouth bass were stacked in that current in absurd numbers.  I've never seen largemouth bass fishing like I had last night for about 90 minutes.  They were leaping and splashing in that current, and were taking flies about as fast as I could put them back into the water.  Even took a few on the dangle, standing right above the water flowing out.

Something eerily familiar about it all.

Culvert giveth.

Culvert taketh away.
